he 2017 season year will mark the first year that the girls softball team will not compete in the Mid Atlantic Prep League (MAPL). Instead the team is looking to rebuild and develop the team to rejoin the MAPL in the coming years at full strength. Sophmore Jenna Richards ’19 commented on the team’s relative inexperience. “The new girls this year are adjusting really well, and the team itself is improving a lot.” Having young talent is a key to rebuilding, and new head coach Assistant Athletic Director Lauren Hoffman will be working to develop the team’s potential. It will definitely be interesting to see how outside competition this year compares to the tough MAPL schedule the team has seen in previous years, and with 11 games lined up, they will look to capitalize on each opportunity. The team has won just one of its first four games over Maryland School for the Deaf. The girls are “working hard to get better” according to senior Maddi Jones ’17, so Blue Storm fans shouldn’t be surprised when they return to full strength and ready to compete in the MAPL – hopefully sooner rather than later. The team has only two home games left against Martinsburg High School and St. John Paul the Great Catholic School, so be sure to come out and support the Blue Storm!
